Privacy Policy for GlintGuard: Device Detector
Last updated: March 9, 2025
1. Introduction
GlintGuard: Device Detector ("we," "our," or "the app") is an anti-spy detection app that helps you look for hidden electronic devices using your phone's magnetometer and camera. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
By using the app, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information Stored on Your Device (Local Only)
The app stores the following data only on your device in local storage. We do not upload this to our servers:
- Onboarding status - Whether you have completed the introductory screens
- App preferences - Such as whether you dismissed certain tips or the detector disclaimer
- Usage counts - For example, how many scans you have run (used only to decide when to show optional prompts like rate-the-app)
- Rate dialog status - Whether you have already been asked to rate the app
This data is used only to improve your in-app experience and is not personally identifiable.
2.2 Camera and Sensors
- Camera: The app uses your device's camera for IR (infrared) detection to help spot hidden cameras. Camera feed is processed only on your device. We do not record, store, or transmit any camera images or video.
- Magnetometer: The app uses the magnetometer to detect magnetic fields for device detection. Sensor data is used only in real time on your device and is not sent to us.
2.3 Automatically Collected Information (Third-Party Services)
When you use the app, the following third-party services may collect information as described in their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob (ads): The app shows ads via Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers (such as advertising ID), approximate location, and usage data to show and measure ads. You can control ad personalization in your device settings (for example, "Opt out of Ads Personalization").
- Firebase Crashlytics: We use Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports and technical diagnostics (for example, device model, OS version, stack traces). This helps us fix bugs and does not include your name or contact details unless such data appears in an error message.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide and improve the app's detection and IR features
- Remember your preferences and show relevant tips
- Show and manage ads (via Google)
- Analyze crashes and improve stability (via Crashlytics)
- Comply with applicable law and protect our rights
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only as follows:
- Google (AdMob, Firebase): As needed for ads and crash reporting, subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Legal: When required by law, court order, or to protect our or others' rights and safety.
- Business transfer: In the event of a merger, sale, or transfer of assets, under the same privacy protections.
5. Data Retention and Security
- Local data: Stored on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
- Crash and ad data: Retained according to Google's and Firebase's policies.
We use standard technical and organizational measures to protect data; no system is completely secure.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- Device permissions: You can revoke camera (or other) permissions in your device settings. Some features (for example, IR detection) will not work without camera access.
- Ad personalization: You can limit or opt out of personalized ads in your device's advertising/privacy settings.
- Uninstall: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored app data from your device.
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or other regions with similar laws, you may have additional rights (for example, access, correction, deletion, portability, objection). Contact us using the details below to exercise them.
7. Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or higher age where required). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International Data
Your data may be processed in the country where you use the app and in countries where our service providers (for example, Google) operate. By using the app, you consent to such transfer and processing.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy in the app or on our website and change the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
